What is Acute Stroke?

What is Acute Stroke?

Acute stroke occurs when blood flow stops into the brain. An acute brain stroke is also known as brain attack, this stroke starts suddenly and get worse when not treated immediately. A TIA (transient ischemic attack) stroke usually occurs before the acute ischemic stroke as warning sign, while TIA has no long-lasting effect, but one should take prevention to stop further strokes or a major stroke like acute stroke to happen.

Our brain cells are very sensitive they require a constant supply of oxygen rich blood to them, when the blood supply gets interrupted due to any blockage or ruptured blood vessels it results in death of large number of brain cells which lead to permanent damage to the brain as our brain can’t regenerate the damaged blood cells.

An acute brain stroke damages the brain causing physical injury to the brain.

There are three major types of acute brain stroke
Ischemic brain stroke: narrowing of blood vessels into the brain is one of the major reasons causes ischemic brain stroke, this narrowing of blood vessels stop the blood flow into the brain resulting brain attack (brain stroke) similar to heart attack, stenosis also causes the ischemic brain stroke.
Hemorrhagic stroke: this stroke is usually a result of brain aneurysm or brain AVM’s which causes blockage into the blood vessels of the brain. In brain AVM’S when a blood vessels ruptures the leaked blood it puts so much pressure around the skull resulting brain cells to die causing a brain stroke, some other reason for a hemorrhagic brain stroke is hypertension which leads to rupturing of blood vessels.
TIA: transient ischemic attack is mini stroke (warning stroke), which usually doesn’t have any long-lasting effect, but one should take all the prevention after getting an TIA stroke.
